Hello Slug Success users,

Happy Summer! As many of you know, we have been working very hard on getting the Slug Success platform ready so students can login to schedule their own advising appointments, and the moment has come! As of Monday 6/26 (the first day of Summer Session I) all students will have the ability to login to the Slug Success site and click the link that allows them to "Make an Advising Appointment" with their advisers. You likely have some questions about what this means for you and/or your department, so please keep reading below to find answers to your questions.

"Wait, I/my department am/are not ready or want students to schedule appointments with Slug Success just yet!" - Don't worry! We are not yet advertising Slug Success to students or adding a link from their MyUCSC to the site. It will be up to you to advertise the site to your students, on your schedule. You can add the Slug Success Login link to your advising website, email signature(s), and/or direct email communication to students whenever you're ready.

"Great, we're excited to have students make their own advising appointments! What can we do to prepare?" - We're excited that you're excited! First, and most importantly, be sure every adviser in your department has set up their advising availability (drop-in and/or appointment times) in Slug Success. You can follow the steps in our setting up availability guide to ensure that you have times available for students to select when they attempt to make appointments. Second, add the Slug Success Login link to your website, email signature, and/or any other place that you advertise your advising services to students. Please include the link along with information about how this link will take them directly to the Slug Success login page where they will use their CruzID and Gold password to login.

How do I help students navigate the Slug Success system to schedule appointments?” We have created a few guides for students, available here on our website, which we highly recommend that you include in your initial communications with students.

What about my student front desk assistant(s)/peer mentor(s) etc. who have been working within the system using an alternate login?” If your office has been using a “functional account” so student employees can login to interact with the site, that functionality will soon be unavailable. However, now that students will be able to login to the site using their own ID, we can add additional roles to their accounts to allow them to use the site as needed for their advising-related jobs. For more information about the various roles and what they allow students to do, please take a look at this page on our website. You can send an email to slugsuccess-accounts@ucsc.edu with any requests for changes to student roles (please include the student’s name, ID, and desired role(s) in your email).

When will students see a Slug Success login link in MyUCSC?” We expect that a link will be added to all students’ MyUCSC Resources page in time for the beginning of Fall quarter 2017.

Where can I learn more and/or get additional information about Slug Success?” We’re very glad you asked! Our new website has gone live today at https://slugsuccess.ucsc.edu/. On the website you will find a bunch of information about Slug Success including a number of self-help user guides, FAQs, our events calendar, news and updates (including this one!), relevant policies, standards and guidelines (including the new Standards For Advising Notes & Reports In Slug Success), login links to the production and training sites, and lots of other great stuff.  Please feel free to check it out and let us know what you think.

I still have questions and/or how can I get more help?” - You are always welcome to email slugsuccess-help@ucsc.edu with questions and/or feedback about Slug Success, and slugsuccess-accounts@ucsc.edu with any account change/addition/removal requests. In addition, we will be hosting a series of open labs throughout July and August. Some of these labs will focus on specific topics (like creating and updating Adviser availability, or working with the Appointment Center), and some will be completely open so you can bring your own topics and questions. Check out the Slug Success Training Calendar to find out when these labs will take place (all labs will be located in the training lab in Kerr Hall room 8) and the specific topics for those that have them. You’re welcome to come with a quick question or stay for the entire time, and to ask many or as few sessions as you like!

If you read through this whole email, congratulations and thank you! We look forward to hearing from you about your experience using Slug Success with your students. Feel free to let us know more about your plans to use Slug Success with your students by filling out this form.
